This cosplay was completed in May of 2023 and it was my most difficult costume to date! I completely patterned the prosthetic arm and the coat myself, which was a brand new experience for me! I had never worked with EVA foam before this build. The weapon was made out of a modified water gun.
I originally cut my hair short for this cosplay, and made a “toupee” of sorts for the blonde hair portion. I clipped my curly hair on top, and snapped the wig into place. I did this to get the clean undercut look. Now that I’ve grown my hair out, my current project is to construct a new undercut and attach it to the blonde portion. That is going to be a whole new learning curve, but once that is complete, I’m looking forward to being able to wear this cosplay whenever I want! (without needing to buzz off my hair)
Since these photos were taken, I have also updated the patches on the coat. I am hoping to enter into competition with this cosplay in 2025. Planned improvements include:
– the new and improved undercut wig
– inserting foam/other material into the hood to keep it upright
– some fixes to the prosthetic arm, including the forearm which tends to twist and bend
Once these fixes are complete, I’ll be competing with him! I could compete as Vash as-is, but I want to make sure that I am completely satisfied with my work so that I can give my best effort.
My goal is to compete with this cosplay at Sacanime Summer 2025.
